Creating Impact through Inspiration

My leadership journey is defined by continuous learning, growth and a deep commitment to performance through hands-on experience.

Early-stage leaders often try to prove themselves through self-reliance, but lasting change comes from building trust and empowering others to lead. True impact comes from inspiring and enabling others, and not just individual performance. Currently, I’m focused on hiring strong talent, creating a vision and empowering execution through trust and shared accountability.

This approach has been transformative for our schools, driving agile decision-making, deeper alignment of goals and a culture that fosters trust, feedback and shared accountability.

Fostering Meaningful Community Engagement

Meaningful engagement requires elevating stakeholder voice, ensuring students and parents actively contribute to the experience. Our feedback loops invite insights and offer real choice in learning initiatives and relevant experiences.

Our Portrait of a Graduate framework identifies essential competencies for life beyond PK-12. This initiative involves the opinions and ideas of students, parents and higher education and business leaders.

At our Center for Innovation, community perspectives are embedded into the learning experience, creating a more responsive and inclusive environment where stakeholder feedback is welcomed and integrated into practice.

Developing Trust with Each Initiative

Building trust and alignment requires consistent visibility across multiple platforms, including community forums, board meetings and parent-teacher meetings, designed to meet participants where they are. Surveys, social media and written communication extend reach and accessibility. We seek to understand stakeholders' perceptions of opportunities, keeping in mind the diversity of engagement needs.

Once input is gathered, we focus on delivering a clear, consistent vision that reflects feedback. Iowa City Community School District belongs to the community, and I am committed to serving and leading in partnership.

Enhancing Educational Outcomes

Our weighted resource allocation model is refined to better match resources to student requirements. We use state funding resources to support full-day preschool in every elementary school. High-quality early education is a powerful indicator of long-term academic and life success.

By factoring in infrastructure, English language learner population, special education needs and socioeconomic factors, our secondary level schools provide students with productive opportunities.

Our expansion of possibilities at the secondary level is grounded in the prioritization of career pathways and programming depth. From advanced placements to two-year degrees from our local community college, we’re preparing students for meaningful post-graduation pathways.

A Commitment to Constant Improvement

Our district’s trajectory is anchored in ICCSD 2030, a vision focused on dynamic learning, equitable access to high-quality preschool education and enriched student experiences beyond the classroom. We have invested $115 million in athletic and fine arts facilities, and we’re committed to nurturing children and building lifelong relationships.

Our high-reliability school improvement framework is grounded in safe, collaborative and supportive cultures. As industry trends like AI shape the broader landscape, we ensure effective teaching and a viable curriculum.

Our priority is to be the best choice for families by offering a transparent, consistent and future-ready public education.
