When we think about schools, we usually think only of academics. But what if it also meant becoming your truest self?

In a world of rapid change and uncertainty, we need an environment built on purpose, empathy, faith, and integrity that goes beyond just test scores and degrees. There is no better place to cultivate this than a school where academic excellence meets integrity, intellect is shaped by character, and service grounds every lesson.

Bergen Catholic , an all-male Roman Catholic high school, embodies that vision. Guided by the goal of shaping young men into purposeful leaders and responsible citizens, the school is supported by a deeply committed faculty. These educators design transformative programs that extend beyond academics, reflecting Bergen’s Catholic identity rooted in faith, inclusivity, and the development of the whole person.

“We become a space of unity in a world often divided,” says Dr. Brian Mahoney, president. “Our doors are open to students of all faiths, creating a place where differences are embraced and voices are heard.”

Inspired by the traditions of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers, Bergen Catholic nurtures each student into a true gentleman. From a firm handshake to meaningful conversation, the school teaches values of manners, etiquette, and emotional intelligence. Students learn to treat others with dignity and carry themselves with integrity on and off campus.

Service is central to this formation. Through opportunities locally and abroad, students practice compassion in action by engaging in clubs, activities, and leadership roles. This helps them give back to those in need and recognize their role in a global community.

To honor the legacy of the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers, the school continues to teach subjects such as Latin, history, theology, English composition, and mathematics. Blending tradition with innovation sets Bergen Catholic apart. From STEM and robotics to the challenges of AI, students are prepared for the future with a focus on using new technologies responsibly. This includes faculty training, expert engagement, and age-appropriate learning.

Bergen Catholic has long followed a 2:1 device model, providing each student with an iPad for digital textbooks and a MacBook for research and writing. This paperless approach supports a four-year business track that gives students early exposure to practical skills. For those drawn to science and medicine, a partnership with Holy Name Medical Center offers an honors research program that allows students to intern alongside professionals across fields ranging from cardiology to mental health.

Beyond graduation, support continues through the Careers for Crusaders program, which provides alumni with résumé-building workshops, LinkedIn coaching, and internship opportunities.

Alumni remain an active part of the community through a lifelong brotherhood. Bergen Catholic engages them through newsletters, magazines, and social media. They are often invited back as speakers, mentors, and participants in special programs, continuing their influence on current students. A strong example of this bond is Matthew Rosa, vice president of admissions and alumni representative.

As he explains, “Being an alumnus myself, I can say the strength of Bergen Catholic lies in the brotherhood. Over 20 alumni now work on staff, serving as mentors and role models for today’s students. We take pride in giving back the same support and community we received.”

Surrounded by motivated peers, students are driven to succeed, leading to strong academic results, scholarships, and acceptance at top universities. Today, Bergen Catholic remains adaptable and forward-looking, whether through its business programs or technology-driven classrooms. The purpose is to build leaders ready to make a positive impact on their communities and the world.

Students spend four years at Bergen Catholic, but they carry its spirit with them for life.
